Wuliang Shan is a relatively little-known region. It lies in the central-western part of Yunnan Province, to the north of the most famous areas known for their production of pu-erh tea.
Many old trees that grow there are cultivated in natural conditions, with minimal human interference.
15 years of ageing in natural, rather dry environment (10 years in the factory warehouse, then last 5 years in central Europe) the tea we’re offering you is a great example of what’s known as “semi-aged pu-erh”—a tea whose flavor profile falls exactly between that of young and ripe pu-erh teas.
Taste profile: smoke, forest (forest floor, pinewood, wood bark), honey and pleasant notes of dried fruits (like plums).
The 2011 Wuliang Shan Dashu Sheng Pu-Erh is a tea that, despite 15 years of aging, remains intense, with a distinct bitterness but also a wonderful, sweet aftertaste.
Highly recommended – We have only 20 cakes.
Description
Origin: Wuliang Shan, Yunnan, China.
Vintage: April 2011
Cultivar: Camellia Sinensis var. Assamica
Age of trees: dashu – big older trees
Temperature of water and amount of leaves: 100 C 5-6g/100ml.
Suggested brewing method: Yixing clay teapot or gaiwan of low capacity. First, you should pre-heat empty teapot/gaiwan and tea cups with boiling water. When the teapot is warmed, then you put the tea leaves in. After smelling hot and dry leaves in the pot, rinse the tea for 10s seconds using boiling water and afterwards pour out all the water from your pot. The process of rinsing tea leaves is often defined as a waking the tea and is very important for quality of next brewings. First drinkable infusion should be very short- not more than 10-20 second. We suggest to increase brewing time for 5-10-15-20 etc. seconds in each next brewing.
