Fresh, gently roasted Dong Ding Oolong from organic garden. Sweet of honey and orchid mixed with refreshing, grassy character! Excellent price/quality ratio!

Origin:  Ming Jian, Nantou county, Taiwan,

Harvest: April 2020,

Cultivar/Tree Variety:  Cui Yu, TRES 13

Temperature of water and amount of leaves: 95 C 5g/100ml.

Suggested brewing method: Yixing clay teapot or gaiwan of low capacity. First, you should pre-heat empty teapot/gaiwan and tea cups with boiling water. When the teapot is warmed, then you put the tea leaves in. After smelling hot and dry leaves in the pot, gently pour the hot water (95 C.) to the pot.  First infusion should be very short- not more than 20 second. We suggest to increase brewing time for 5-10 seconds in each next brewing.

As the description goes, this is a slightly roasted and still relatively unoxidized Dong Ding. The dry leaves on heated gaiwan absolutely confirm the characteristics of this oolong and is a reminder on why I love them. Now the steepings revealed a quite dull and simple character, very different to the other oolong i got from this shop (the Nantou Gui Fei) which i absolutely adored. The main aspect that continued throughout the steepings is the consistent creaminess. You need to hit this tea hard, otherwise it will start to open very late. Once the leaves are opened the taste note actually doesn’t change much, grassy high notes with roasted black pepper, not much orchids or white flowers but you can slightly taste them. A daily drinker, the price is very good and although lacks in complexity it yields still a nice session.

Excellent price/quality ratio. Good, balanced – with nice clean aftertaste. Solid everyday drinker.
