2022 batch of  Miaoli Oriental Beauty comes from the same garden like our all Miaoli Oriental Beauities from 2019.

Similar to previous year but with higher (more traditional) oxidation and excellent mi xiang (honey aroma) flavor.

Subtle aroma is full of notes of honey, berries, muscatel and cane sugar. Aftertaste is long and sweet.

2022 batch is also intense of terms of fruitiness. Some tropical, exotic fruits notes are here.

* this tea requires good quality water and some attention. Teas like that one I usually call “quiet tea” because it shows its full beauty only when you are focused.

During my tea life I tasted so many Oriental Beauty (known also as Bai Hao oolong) made in Taiwan, China, Vietnam or even Thailand. And it’s so hard to find decent one! This kind of tea requires a lot of effort to produce it and the best Oriental beauty comes from old tea makers, cause the new generation of tea farmers, in general, want to produce less demanding teas. It’s one of my most difficult challenges to find tasty and affordable Oriental Beauty.

Few months ago I promised to share with you some very high grade Oriental Beauty from Miaoli we booked a year before the harvest. This Oriental Beauty tastes exactly like tea I remember from early 2000’s when the quality of OB oolong was very high with not sky-high prices we see nowadays.

Perfect composition – like high quality perfumes.

Description

Origin: Toufen, Miaoli, Taiwan

Harvest/Vintage: last days of May 2022

Tea Varietal: Qing Xin Da Pan

Temperature of water and amount of leaves: 85-95 C 5g/100ml. (let the boiling water to cool down for minute)

Suggested brewing method: Yixing clay teapot or gaiwan of low capacity. First, you should pre-heat empty teapot/gaiwan and tea cups with boiling water. When the teapot is warmed, then you put the tea leaves in. After smelling hot and dry leaves in the pot, gently pour the  water to the pot.  First infusion should be very short- not more than 20-30 seconds. We suggest to increase brewing time for 5-10 seconds in each next brewing. You can prepare at least 8-10 nice brewings!

Please treat it gently. Boiling water is ok, but I like to wait around a minute and then pour the leaves with gentle, smooth stream of hot water. Better to use less leaves to fully enjoy all subtle nuances of that lovely tea.
