Jin Guan Yin (金观音) is a new Oolong tea from Anxi in China. It’s a clone set on a Huang Jin Gui root. The goal is to combine the taste of Tie Guan Yin with the osmanthus scent of Huang Jin Gui.
Our Jin Guan Yin is the only one light roasted yancha we offer in the shop.
Tea was produced in organic garden established20 years ago in the village located 10 min drive away from Wuyishan Protected Area. That’s why we shouldn’t consider this tea as Zhengyan Cha. It is considered as Banyan cha: the tea produced in the outskirts of Wuyi National Park.
In this clean and pure tea you will find pleasant notes of peaches, apricots, smooth creamy-toasty nuances combined with pleasant sweet flowery-honey (omanthus, lilac) like fragrances.
Bitterness is well pronounced, but it turns immediately into long lasting sweet aftertaste.
Origin: organic garden located 10 min drive from the Wuyishan Protected Area, Banyan area, Wuyishan, Fujian, China.
Vintage: May 2023
Tea Varietal: Jin Guan YIn
Description
Temperature of water and amount of leaves: 100 C 6g/100ml.
Suggested brewing method: Yixing clay teapot or gaiwan of low capacity. First, you should pre-heat empty teapot/gaiwan and tea cups with boiling water. When the teapot is warmed, then you put the tea leaves in. After smelling hot and dry leaves in the pot, gently pour the boiling water to the pot. First infusion should be very short- not more than 10 second. We suggest to increase brewing time for 5-10 seconds in each next brewing.

This was quite the surprise. Lychee/Peachy notes with bright florals, brown sugar and a nice astringency that tickles the tastes buds like a sparking wine. From the first sip I knew this was special because it reached that wonderful junction where flavors tantalize the taste buds and the brain is busy assessing the complexity.
