Amazing Baozhong made by family which produces Baozhong for 5 generations!
Hei Dan (黑旦), also known as Wu Dan (乌旦), is a tea cultivar originating from Shuangmei Village in Daping Township, Anxi County, Fujian Province, China. This cultivar has been cultivated for almost a century and is primarily used in the production of oolong tea.
In China Hei Dan is ver rare but in Taiwan – unique!
We both an experimental batch of Pinglin Baozhong made from this cultivar. And it’s amazing.
From all winter samples we tasted, this one was most intriguing.
Taste profile: honeydew, mirabelle prunes, orchid.
Full-bodied, strong aroma.
Please look at the appearance of the leaves. They are not so vivid green like most of Baozhongs, but rather yellowish, olive green. It’s the cultivar color, not the processing difference.
Description
Origin: Pinglin, New Taipei City, Taiwan.
Harvest: November 2024
Tea cultivar: Hei Dan (黑旦) known as Wu Dan (乌旦)
Temperature of water and amount of leaves: 100 C 5-7g/100ml.
Suggested brewing method: Yixing clay teapot or gaiwan of low capacity. First, you should pre-heat empty teapot/gaiwan and tea cups with boiling water. When the teapot is warmed, then you put the tea leaves in. After smelling hot and dry leaves in the pot, gently pour the boiling water to the pot. First infusion should be very short- not more than 20-25 second. We suggest to increase brewing time for 5-10 seconds in each next brewing. You can prepare at least 8-10 nice brewings!
