Teapot is not glazed.

Handmade ball filter.

Wonderful red clay teapot made by Japanese artist Shimizu Takayuki – Kohokujo: the son of master Hokujo – Shimizu Genji.

Decorated in traditional mogake style. This technique consists on wrapping seaweed (rich in salt and iron) around pots to produce red, rusty markings during firing.

The small batch of small sized teapots were made especially for us.

Each teapot is made from the same unique blend of red clay that father and son use for most of their teapots. This “high iron” is quite universal but it makes wonders with every roasted (at every level of roasting) oolongs. It can balance rough notes in tea and underline the aroma. It’s one of our favourite clay for traditional oolongs.

Craftmanship is just perfect – pour is fast and precise – with no drips and leaks.

Lid fits perfectly. No movement.

Each teapot by Kohokujo comes with wooden tomobako signed by the artist.
